If chocolate makes you feel better then don’t deprive yourself of it ? It sounds like you’re doing perfectly fine ? Maybe you’re not eating enough ? A lot of urges to binge come from deprivation throughout the day.

It’s not weird at all, don’t feel embarrassed about being afraid of public redicule. It is something that does happen ? Like people are all “no one is even really looking blah blah” But WE know better. 
All I can say is try to look past it, see anyone who would dare laugh at you for that as the squirming worthless worm they are. Flip anyone who does (if they do) off and carry on like the majestic fucking lion/ess you are. 
IF you really aren’t ready to face that fear, then try some home workouts first, dvds etc
